  • The real summer is here aka Bass season is open

Leaving today for a five night camping trip in the Adirondacks. Bass season opened yesterday and Cindy has assured me that the Bass will be practically jumping into the boat. Possible car camp tonight and then getting on the water early tomorrow.

  • Spring Camping 2022

Haven’t updated for a while so here’s a little update. So far the trips have been great but the weather has left a little to be desired.

  • Crown Land Winter Camping Search

    Crown Land Winter Camping Search

Headed out with Heather and Martin for a day of searching for winter camping spots. Checked out location from Renfrew to Griffith to Calabogie and back to Renfrew. Many of the backroads we encountered were closed and seem unused in the winter.

Found a few possible location along the route but might be more suitable for summer camping.

Stopped at Black Donald Creek for a quick snowshoe. Travelled uphill in eight inches of fresh powder for half a kilometre before returning to the creek and snowshoeing along a snowmobile trail on the creek and getting these pictures.

Stopped for a quick lunch in Calabogie and tested out new stove. Martin and I have the same stove. He used propane while I used isobutane. The propane performed 100% better than the isobutane in the -18c and I ended up using his stove to heat my water.

Fun day talking about upcoming 2022 adventures.

  • Week of winter activities

    Week of winter activities

Haven’t posted in a while busy with Christmas and such. Had a great week of outdoor adventures this week.

Day 1 – Met up with Heather and Martin for a possible snowshoe around the Alvin Runnalls Forest. Not enough snow to snowshoe but put in a good two hour hike.

Day 2 – Met up with Drew and he showed me around his Grenville hiking location. He’s told me many time about these backroads ut the first time I’ve joined him. Hiked for about two hours. Definitely will be going back to check out the area.

Day 3 – New Years Eve hike with Heather to the shore of the St Lawrence for an New Year’s campfire. Had a great time on a warm evening. Total hiking time was about 90 minutes.

Day 4 – Met up with Heather and Martin to snowshoe from P1. Snowshoed for about 3 hours.

Day 5 – Met up with Heather and Martin again. Martin’s last day in Embrun before moving back to Renfrew. Cross-country skied for 4 hours. The last hour was tough but conditions were great considering the lack of snowfall.

  • Frontenac Provincial Park

    Frontenac Provincial Park

A quick one night visit to the park for some autumn camping. The only two nice days of this week and next. The park ranger suggested we stay at site 15 one of the new single sites installed this year. It was perfect. A 6 km hike to the site with new tenting platform, bear box, and privy.

  • Brockville Islands

    Brockville Islands

Great weather today for a paddle around the Brockville islands. For October 12 the water was warm enough to go for a swim. Felt like a summers day.

  • Jessup’s Fall

    Jessup’s Fall

The club outing was a trip on the Salmon River but arriving at the launch in Lefaivre the winds were too high with whitecaps everywhere. We decided to switch to Jessup’s Falls and paddled from the launch towards the Ottawa river. Sheltered from the winds we had a very nice paddle out to the Ottawa river and back.

  • Braeside Beach

    Braeside Beach

    September 7th, 2021

Beautiful day paddling on the Ottawa river starting out from Braeside beach. Arriving at the launch spot the river was covered in mist and the Quebec shore could not be seen. The sun burned off the mist and the river was a like a mirror

    Algonquin Park – Sec Lake

    September 17 to 19

A relaxing weekend at Sec Lake with Cindy and Jo-Ann. I headed to the lake early to try and grab one of the island sites. Luckily one of the sites on the smaller island was available and I pitched my tent and hammock to get ready for Cindy and Jo-Ann’s arrival.

  • Crotch Lake

    Crotch Lake

Back at Crotch Lake for a week at a cottage with other members of the Chesterville Kayak Club

    Friday night sunset

A great meal prepared by Kim with some quality Gin and dessert by Heather. Great first night playing Crib until 12 in the morning. After the team of Lucien and myself got off to an early 2 nothing lead the team of Heather and Kim made a comeback to tie it up and 2 to 2 before going into defeat. The boys rule!

    View from the cottage

Early Saturday morning fishing. One Perch caught now into something bigger.

    Sunday
